In memory of “Daddad” Hubert Hinkle, who left a legacy of our love of music.

This group of “music friends” played together often. In the late sixties the group, along with others from Stone County were invited to entertain at Silver Dollar City in Branson for their “Root Digging Days”. Hubert Hinkle’s granddaughter, Virginia Parsons, age 11 played the autoharp and accompanied them on the trips to Branson. She remembers the audience’s keen interest in seeing and hearing an unfamiliar instrument. Mother Maybelle Carter made the autoharp famous, however many in the audience had never seen one. Virginia recalled that most of the musicians stayed on Table Rock Lake where they enjoyed fish fries together and had their own hometown pickins at night. She remembered Eddie Walker, Skinny Blair, Roger and Mona Faye Moody and their families being there as well.

The group is pictured here at the courtroom hootenanny. However, they also played on the stage of the Folk Center in the early days.

Although Nancy didn’t play a stringed instrument, she would often accompany “Daddad” Hinkle’s banjo on the piano. He had a reel to reel recorder and loved recording his music. His greatest pleasure was sitting in his living room, “making music” with family and friends.
